Ohio – Columbus Children’s Theater

With the exception of a 4 year stretch, Jenn’s parents have lived in the Columbus area for as long as we’ve known each other.  We’ve enjoyed on several occasions taking a Saturday and visiting them with a trip to the Columbus Children’s Theater.  It doesn’t look like much from the outside, and the inside reflects the shoestring budget that they must operate on, but the quality of entertainment for the countless kids that make their way through the theater is really, really good.  Our three have enjoyed their time each time, from Rapunzel to The Little Mermaid, Jr. to Cinderella.  The stories often follow the original plots in lieu of the Disneyfication of the tales, and that keeps the kids’ attention.  The cast, which is often very small, is always available after the show for quick meet-‘n’-greets & autographs.

The Columbus Children’s Theater will never get top billing in the city that boasts the Buckeyes, Blue Jackets, a fine “grown up”/off-Broadway theater district & the best shopping between Chicago & New York City, but it’s a nice little jewel to discover for families with young kids looking for good entertainment for the whole family.

from the Gates Family!

Way back, we formed a plan to visit all fifty states with our kids before our oldest finished college. Simply passing through a state wouldn’t count as a visit. Instead, we’d investigate places and themes that make each state unique to the union.

This required choosing age-appropriate states and activities all along the way, and the plan has always been fluid. Our only obligation is to ourselves and our kids (there are no outside rules for this project) and the most difficult part of this project has always been saying, “No,” to so many cool and interesting things in so many states.

The adventures we do plan? Wonderful!

The adventures we’ve stumbled upon without planning? Amazing!

Whether you’re looking for inspiration for your own family, or you’ve crossed paths with us and you’re following up with our own brand of craziness, take your time as you peruse the posts. We really hope you enjoy them.
