We’ve written about our experiences in Yellowstone and Grand Teton, and I really didn’t think we’d have reason to get back to Wyoming during our #gates50states adventures. But among the many cool aspects of our goal is… you just never know where life is going to take you.
For instance, if you ever find yourself driving from the South Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota to Custer State Park in South Dakota, you could do much worse than taking a detour through Wyoming to visit Devils Tower National Monument. Grandma Laura and Grandpa Dave accompanied us on our Dakota trip, and Grandpa Dave has very fond memories of Close Encounters of the Third Kind, so we took the long way to the Black Hills of South Dakota and took a stroll around Devils Tower.

Then on our drive from Alliance, NE, to Denver, we wanted to stop and get some hiking in. As it turns out, Curt Gowdy State Park is a stone’s throw from Cheyenne and more or less on the way, and what a cool stop this was! Of course there’s a fee for this state park, but it was well worth the few dollars.

Some bonus Wyoming! We love this state!
